March 1, 2007 Emotions will be extreme as the 'madness' has begun By: Ed Schilling, IndyStar.com
A couple of years ago, I remember it like it was yesterday, sitting on the University of Memphis bench as an assistant coach watching Darius Washington walk to the free throw line with the Conference USA Tournament championship riding on his forthcoming free throws. We had won the three previous games in consecutive days and this game against Louisville had come down to Darius getting fouled on a 3-pointer with no time on the clock.

College Hoops catches up with Darius By: Jeff Fox, CollegeHoops.net June 7, 2006
I’ve been really busy since I decided to enter the draft. I was really lucky to be able to spend a week with Coach Lucas in Houston who I really admire and then got to spend a couple weeks at the IMG Academy in Bradenton. Doing everything from practicing drills, shooting, lifting, reviewing tape, listening to my trainers and learning as much as I can before the draft. I am happy to have my family close because at times it can be stressful. I am just trying to keep my head on straight and focus on the coming weeks.

Darius Washington NBA Workout by: Dennis Rogers, Vegas Summer League
TVSL's Dennis Rogers recently caught up with former Memphis Tiger Darius Washington after an NBA workout. Washington, an early entrant into the NBA Draft from Memphis, averaged 13.4 points, 3.1 assists and 2.8 rebounds in his sophomore season.
Washington, a 6-2, 195-pound point guard, was on the fringe between keeping his name in the 2006 NBA Draft and going back to Memphis for his junior season before deciding to keep his name in the draft. He is a tough, physical point guard with good speed and quickness. He was named to the Conference USA first-team as a sophomore and garnered the Freshman of the Year award his first season with the Tigers. He helped Memphis to the Conference USA Championship and a #1 seed in the 2006 NCAA Tournament.

Word on the Street: Private Workouts Fallout By: Jonathan Givony - President DraftExpress.com May 20, 2006 DraftExpress.com presents the latest juice from around the NBA draft world.
Top Point Guards Work Out for Houston
The Houston Rockets had an interesting point guard only workout on Friday that has been generating plenty of buzz. The four players in attendance were Sophomores Rajon Rondo, Darius Washington and Daniel Gibson and Senior Randy Foye. Houston’s workouts have earned the reputation of being amongst the most grueling and physical in the NBA, and this one was apparently no exception. This was the first workout for all the players here except Randy Foye. Here are some of things we heard about coming out of the workout. All opinions expressed are those of the NBA sources we spoke with and not DraftExpress.

Prospect Rankings May 17, 2006 By Tony Mejia, CBS SportsLine.com Staff Writer
SportsLine.com's Tony Mejia ranks the top prospects at each position.
Point Guard 1. Marcus Williams Connecticut 6-2 200 Jr. His on-court maturity and improvement as a sophomore was astronomical. A sure-fire lottery pick. 2. Randy Foye Villanova 6-3 205 Sr. Not a traditional pass-first point, yet he always finds a way to get the job done. Foye can really fill it up. 3. Jordan Farmar UCLA 6-1 170 So. Confidence is no problem for the Bruins point guard, and I wouldn't expect him back if I were Ben Howland. Farmar is smooth as silk and makes sound decisions.

Washington declaring for NBA Former Edgewater High star Darius Washington Jr. is leaving Memphis after 2 seasons to join the pros.
By Alan Schmadtke, Sentinel Staff Writer April 26, 2006
For Orlando prep phenom Darius Washington Jr., college apparently will be a two-year experience.
A month after helping guide the University of Memphis to its first regional final in a decade, Washington announced Tuesday on his Web site (www.dwash.net) that he will make himself available for the NBA draft in June.
Washington's father, Darius Washington Sr., confirmed the decision, saying his son felt the time was right.
"It's all about what Darius wants for himself," Washington Sr. told the Sentinel. "Sometimes what drives a kid might be a desire to take care of his family. He has none of that pressure in his decision.
"This will be about him. It's based on his goals . . . fulfilling his dreams."
Washington could not be reached for comment. Reporters in Memphis were referred to his Web site.
"Playing in the NBA has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember," Washington said in a note to his fans.
Memphis coaches were not caught off guard. Tigers Coach John Calipari and his assistantstold peers at the Final Four earlier this month they expected Washington, a 6-foot sophomore point guard, to go pro.
